Punjab Water Crisis: New Tube-wells banned in 18 blocks

Ludhiana, Punjab (April 06, 2011): As per media reports eighteen administrative sub-units called blocks have been notified by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) banning any new bores for drawing underground water in Punjab. As per information Ludhiana tops the list and worst affected is Sangrur district where the board has notified 8 blocks for banning new bores. Punjab has total 137 blocks and around 100 of these are already been listed as dark zones due to over exploitation of underground water.

Voices for Freedom seek Saini’s removal as Punjab DGP 

Chandigarh, Punjab (April 03, 2012): As per media reports, taking up a petition filed in public interest for removal of Sumedh Singh Saini from the post of Punjab Director-General of Police, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the petitioner-NGO "Voices for Freedom" to prove its locus standi on the issue.

Next hearing of Prof. Bhullar’s case on April 10

New Delhi, India (April 03, 2012): The Supreme Court of India today called for the original files of 18 cases of Presidential review petitions pending before President of India. A Supreme court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya directed the Additional Solicitor General Harin Raval to place the files before it for its perusal following the submissions made by amicus curiae Ram Jethmalani and senior counsel K.T.S. Tulsi.

Hearing on Professor DPS Bhullar’s death sentence to continue in SCI; decision expected this week

New Delhi, India (April 02, 2012): As per information available with “Sikh Siyasat”, the Supreme Court of India shall resume hearing on plea against death sentence to Sikh political prisoner Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar on Tuesday. Professor DPS Bhullar was convicted on fractured evidence in a 1993 blast case in which nine persons had died in Delhi.
