Through the eyes of Sikh kids: A profound lesson in tolerance

Last weekend, I had the unenviable task of teaching Sikh children about the massacre in Oak Creek. The kids sat at picnic tables overlooking a lake at sunset at a summer camp in New York state. They chattered excitedly in anticipation of the evening campfire that was to follow. I stood in front of them trying to compose my thoughts, wondering if children in elementary school could even comprehend what happened. I stroked my beard nervously, looked around the class and decided to find out what the kids already knew.

Badal Dal’s Canadian supporters praised Sukhbir Badal for cancelling visit

Canada (August 24, 2012): Supporters of Badal Dal from Canada have praised Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for his decision to postpone Canada visit on their advise. It is notable that earlier this month Parksh Singh Badal, chief minister of Punjab & father of Sukhbir Badal was hit with a law suit in United States accusing senior Badal for overlooking torture on Sikhs in Punjab and for shielding police officers responsible for human rights violations. In wake of this episode Badal Dal leaders from Canada had advised Sukhbir Badal to not to visit Canada as there was apprehension that he may also face similar situation.

Nineteen US Senators call for tracking hate crimes against Sikhs in US

Chandigarh (August 24, 2012): According to information released by Sikh Coalition 19 U.S. senators have written to Attorney General Eric Holder asking that the U.S. Justice Department begin tracking hate crimes committed against Sikh-Americans.
