3 days police remand of Amit Sharma, who used abusive language against Sikh Gurus on Facebook

Jalandhar, Punjab ( June 23, 2013): It is learnt that Amit Sharma, an activist of Shiv Sena, who used derogatory words against Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, over social networking site Facebook has been booked by Jalandhar police under Section 295A of Indian Penal Code and Section 66A of Information Technology Act.

According to certain media sections Amit Sharma is Mohali District President of Shiv Sena. According to some media reports he is the same person who had attempted to assault/attack Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in Chandigarh court complex.

It is further learnt that the Jalandhar police presented Amit Sharma before the court of Mandeep Kaur, ACJM from the back door on June 22, 2013. Police reportedly cited security reasons behind the back door entry.

Two lawyers – Advocate Parminder Singh Vig and Advocate Gurmohan Singh, who represented the Sikhs in the court, urged court to send Amit Sharma on police remand so that police could investigate that from where Amit Sharma got the objectionable material that was posted on Facebook and who were his accomplice.

The police has reprotedly moved an application in the court to attach Section 153-A of IPC to the list of charges under investigation against Amit Sharma. The court reportedly sent him on police remand till June 24, 2013.
