Ludhiana, Punjab (February 23, 2014): It is learnt that the workers of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), who were coming to Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally in Jagraon, were stopped near Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhaina.
According to certain media reports they were holding black flags as a mark of protest against the displacement of several Punjabi famers from the border areas of Gujarat.
The SAD (A) members said that Narendra Modi was responsible for the displacement of more than 60,000 Sikh farmers from Gujarat.
The party has also written a letter to Punjab governor Shivraj Patil through the deputy commissioner of Ludhiana stating that arrival of Narendra Modi could disturb peace in the state.
Before moving towards Jagraon, the SAD (A) workers gathered at Punjabi Bhawan from where they were not allowed to proceed further.
Workers of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, led by S. Simran Jeet Singh Mann, including Jassa Singh Galwadi, Tirlok Singh Bhola, Gagandeep Singh, Manjit Singh Siyalkoti, Sukhwinder Singh Sokhi, Surjit Singh, Karamjit Singh, Mohan Singh, Avtar Singh and others raised slogans against Narendra Modi and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for hurting sentiments of the people of state.
