No ‘proof’ of liquor at Sukhbir rally, clean chit likely to Badal Dal

Chandigarh/ Punjab (March 28, 2014): According to media reports clean chit is likely to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in a complaint related to alleged distribution of liquor during Sukhbir Badal’s rally at Ghanaur on March 20. As per information witnesses in this case have failed to turn up to depose before the probe officer. It is likely that no witness would only mean a clean chit to the SAD (Badal)

As per The Tribune: “Commenting on the development, a Congress functionary said: ‘We do not expect any action from the CEO since all other complaints against the ruling party have been ignored’.”

Chief Electoral Officer VK Singh said: “Officers have tried their best to contact the witnesses in the list. All of them have given excuses for not deposing before the Patiala Deputy Commissioner.” The Congress had sought a re-inquiry after an earlier probe absolved the SAD of the charges.

It may be recalled that the liquor distribution during Sukhbir Badal’s March 20 rally at Ghanaur was extensively reported in the media.
