Ludhiana: A division bench of the Delhi High Court today granted bail to Scottish citizen Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal across seven cases. Sikh Siyasat News spoke with Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur to discuss the details of the decision and the timeline for Jagtar Singh Johal’s probable release.

Q: What was today’s verdict?

A: The bail plea for Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal in seven NIA cases was allowed by a division bench of the Delhi High Court.

Q: Has Jagtar Singh Jaggi been released from jail yet?

A: Not yet. We have been directed to furnish sureties for his bail. We have initiated the process, and it will be completed by tomorrow or early next week.

Q: When is he expected to be released?

A: After furnishing the bail sureties and completing all the necessary release paperwork, we expect him to be out of jail next week.

Q: Will he be able to return to the UK now?

A: No, not without the court’s permission. A person released on bail must abide by its conditions and cannot leave the country without judicial clearance. Therefore, Jagtar Singh Johal will remain in India.

Q: What is the current status of the cases against him?

A: He was originally booked in 11 cases. He was acquitted in one case following a trial, and the courts have discharged him in two others. The trials for the remaining eight cases—for which he has now been granted bail—are ongoing in a special NIA court in Delhi.

Q: So, his trials will continue?

A: Yes, the trials will proceed in the special NIA court in Delhi.
