India: Cloud brust killed 6, including 2 children in Uttarakhand state

Dehradun, India (July 31, 2014): Another natural calamity, a cloud burst, has been reported from Uttarakhand state of India. At least 6 persons, including 2 children) were reportedly buried under flash flood triggered muck that came down crashing upon Nauthana village of Ghansali tehsil, nearly 60 kilometers away from district headquarter Tehri in Uttarakhand on wee hours today (July 31).

As per information the incident of cloud burst occurred at 2 am in the night.

Information provided by the Tehri District disaster management control room claimed that six persons died and one was grievously injured in the flash flood that resulted due to incessant rain form more than 10 hours.

Four dead bodies were recovered as rescue and search operation was started by the local disaster management teams, CISF men, fire brigade men. Those dead have been identified as Rajesh Nautiyal (32), Mangani Devi (52), Mangaleshwari Devi (36), Lachhu Devi (56), Ritika (13) and Debu (10).

“Rescue works was started at around 5 am and four bodies have been recovered while search is on for two more buried persons. Number casualties were also unlikely to go up for local villagers have informed that remain persons from houses trapped inside the muck are safe as they had already left their homes fearing flash flood,” said Ashish Semwal head district disaster management officer.

Last year a cloud burst had caused major havoc in Uttarakhand.
