Chinese President Xi Jinping slips trip to Pakistan; India, Srilanka still on

Beijing, China (September 05, 2014): In wake of political turmoil in Pakistan, the Chinese President Xi Jinping has reportedly cancelled/ postponed his trip to Pakistan. The decision was reportedly taken after President Xi Jinping’s security team did not give clearance to his proposed trip to Pakistan.

Xi Jinping’s security delegation was in Islamabad two days back to review the security situation in light of the protests, and was not reportedly satisfied with the arrangements.

The Chinese president was scheduled to land in Islamabad on September 14.

According to the certain media reports, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan had requested the government to get Red Zone of Islamabad vacated ahead of the Chinese president’s visit.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on his Twitter account Friday that the visit was postponed. Sharif blamed anti-government protesters who converged on Islamabad more than two weeks ago, demanding he step down.

Notably the Chinese President is scheduled to visit India in late September. He will also be visiting Srilanka.
