New Delhi, India: India’s minister of External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today said that there is no concrete proof or information regarding either the safety or killing of the 39 Indians kidnapped in Mosul (Iraq) in June.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha on 40 Indians, mostly Punjabis, abducted in Iraq, Sushma Swaraj said: “We have information from six different sources that the 39 Indians kidnapped in Iraq in June have not been killed.”
“It is my responsibility to continue with the search on the basis of statements of these 6 sources,” Swaraj added.
Swaraj was responding to Congress’ allegations that the government has not been truthful about the fate of Indian nationals trapped in Iraq.
A news reported by ABP (Sanjha) maintained that 39 out of 40 Indians, mostly Punjabis, abducted in Mosul (Iraq) by ISIS operatives are dead now. They were kidnapped by ISIS back in June and there was no information on their whereabouts.
ABP (Sanjha) news channel maintains that the only person to escape death clenches of ISIS is Harjeet, a resident of Kala Afghana village in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. ABP (Sanjha) journalist Jaswinder Patial reportedly visited Erbil in Iraq, where he met Bangladeshi workers Shafi and Hassan who were among 51 Bangladeshi workers abducted by ISIS. These Bangladeshi workers were abducted with 40 Indian and Punjabi workers. ISIS reportedly released Bangaldeshi workers, while it killed Indian and Punjabi workers.
Shafi and Hassan said that Harjit was also shot by ISIS but he survived and managed to escape. They claimed that Harjit was injured and introduced himself as Bangladeshi worker ‘Ali’. He manged to reach Erbil, they added.
Harjit is reportedly in contact with his family in Gurdaspur. According to ABP (Sanjha) Indian High Commissions was aware of the killings and Harjit has reported the incident to the Indian High Commission.
However regarding Harjeet, Sushma Swaraj said, “Harjeet is safe and is in the protective care of the government.”
