Sikh Panth remembered its great martyrs – Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Kehar Singh

Amritsar, Punjab: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) along with other Panthic groups today observed the death anniversary of Bhai Kehar Singh and Bhai Satwant Singh, who were hanged to death on this day 26 years ago.

Dal Khalsa along with other hardliner groups today reiterated their demand for the construction of memorial in memory of Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh, who assassinated the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The Jathedar of the Akal Takht honoured Tirlok Singh, the father of Satwant Singh and brother of Kehar Singh. He eulogized the sacrifices of both and termed them as great martyrs.

Jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh stressed on the need of Panthic unity. He urged the Panthic groups not to fight over on calendar issue rather than unite to get the Sikh detainees released. He said without complete unity and harmony within Panthic groups, the Sikhs won’t be able to get justice nor they would be able to achieve their desired goal. “He said calendar issue is our internal matter and we would resolve it amicably at appropriate time”.

“We observed the 26th death anniversary of Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh as both avenged the sacrilege of Akal Takht and Darbar Sahib said Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh. They sacrificed their lives for the cause of Sikh faith, hence they were held in high esteem, said he.

Dal Khalsa activist pressed the SGPC to fulfill the aspirations of the community by building the memorial as both were bestowed the honour of great martyr by the Akal Takht.

Upset over the delay in raising the memorial, he said like governments, the SGPC too has got immune with criticism. “They don’t listen to the saner voice until there was some sort of strong protest against them or their political masters need to carter Panthic votes”

Others who were present include former MP Dhian Singh Mand, Gaini Jagtar Singh, Baldev Singh Sirsa, Advocate Sailka, Darbar Sahib manager Partap Singh, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman, Bhai Mohkam Singh, Gurdeep Singh Bhatinda, Wassan Singh Zaffarwal.
