Restriction on assembly and movement of 5 or more (Sec. 144) imposed in Ludhiana for 2 month

Ludhiana, Punjab: To suppress the peaceful struggle of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, Punjab Government has reportedly imposed restrictions on assembly of five or more people in Ludhiana. It is notable that Bapu Surat Singh had started indefinite hunger strike on in mid-January seeking release of Sikh political prisoners who have completed their minimum mandatory jail terms. Bapu Surat Singh is currently hospitalized under police custody in Ludhaina where he is being force-fed by the doctors.

A notice issued by IPS Naveen Singla (Deputy Commissioner Police, Ludhiana) says that some political workers might cause disturbance in law and order by organising protest marches, therefore, the order says, it was necessary to take special steps to ensure law and order.

The DCP imposed section 144 of Cr. P. C. in Ludhiana prohibiting assembly and movement of 5 or more persons for next two months.

Supporters of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa have criticised the Punjab Government for using foul means to fail the struggle of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa.

People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has also expressed deep concern over the health and well being of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa and the indifferent and insensitive response of the Punjab government.
