Jalandhar, Punjab: Various Sikh bodies namely Dal Khalsa, SAD (Panch Pardani), Damdami Taksal, United Akali Dal, and Khalsa Panchayat today asked the Indian govt and Delhi govt to ban the film Nanak Shah Fakir immediately on the lines of the Punjab govt.
Commenting on the decision of the Punjab govt suspending the screening of the film in the state, Kanwar Pal Singh addressing the press conference said better sense has prevailed. Punjab govt has saved itself from hurting the sentiments of the Sikhs.
Terming the present situation as volatile, the Dal Khalsa and other groups said the Indian governments silent indifference towards Sikh sensitivities and the mischief unleashed by the producer of the movie could degenerate into another confrontation.
Putting onus on Jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh, he said the ultimate solution lies in issuing of edict by the Akal Takhat jathedar for the witrhdrawal of the film. He said the film was intolerable and unacceptable as it has potential to challenge and subvert the fundamental beliefs of the faith. He warned the producer against preaching the blasphemy through his film.
Jathedar Kulbir Singh Barapind, Harpal Singh Cheema, Gaini Kewal Singh former jathedar, Gurdeep Singh Bhatinda, Harjinder Singh (Neelihan Faujan), Rajinder Singh, Parminderpal Singh Khalsa, Baba Sukhdev Singh from Taksal beside Harchranjit Singh Dhami took part in today’s emergency meet called by the Dal Khalsa to chalk out action programme to stop the release of the film at local gurdwara.
