June 15, 2016 | By

New Delhi: A Punjab-based NGO called Human Rights Awareness Association (HRAA), today (June 15) approached the Supreme Court of India taking a plea against the controversial movie ‘Udta Punjab’.

Advocate Subramanian Prasad, who appeared for the HRAA, said the movie projected the state of Punjab in a bad light. He further contended that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had rightly ordered removal of the objectionable scenes from the yet to be released movie.

He further added that the Bombay High Court should not have quashed the CBFC order and directed the release of the movie with just one cut, he pleaded.

As per The Tribune (TT), a vacation Bench comprising Justices AK Goel and L Nageswara Rao, however, said it would hear the petition only after the petitioner completed the filing formalities.

Notably, another petition against the movie is pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
