Chandigarh: Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi Member Parliament from Patiala strongly reacting over anti-Punjab decision of the Supreme Court of India on controversial SYL Canal issue termed it against the natural justice and federal spirit of the Constitution of India.
He said from time to time different government at centre has always discriminated against Punjab by giving his only natural resource water to non-riparian states of Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi without giving any royalty to the Punjab in contravention with internationally and regionally accepted riparian principles.
He said it has not only made the Punjab economically bankrupt, but also forced the Punjab farmers to depend on tubewells for irrigation resulting into their indebtedness leading to suicides.
As a result of overdependence on tubewells three-fourth of the Punjab has come under dark zone four as per NASA report and Punjab is going to become a barren state in next fifteen years if its share of water for irrigation is not retuned back immediately.
Dr. Gandhi has blamed all the previous governments at the Centre and the state to create a situation where Punjab, the state known for its water is at the verge of becoming a desert.
The Supreme Court decision has also unmasked that Indian Union is not genuinely federal one as it has shown no respect to the decision of Punjab state’s elected representatives and will of the people of Punjab which has resulted in trampling the right of the Punjabi people on its natural resource- the water.
Dr. Gandhi has called upon the people of Punjab to fight tooth and nail against this continuing injustice and come forward to demand for its looted water during the last six decades. He called upon Punjab loving people to assemble tomorrow on 11th November at 12 noon to lodge their protest against this anti Punjab decision.
