Two More Arrested: Police claims to solve Dera Sauda follower murder case

July 13, 2017 | By

Chandigarh: The Punjab police on Wednesday (July 12) claimed to have arrested two more Sikhs, namely Gurpreet Singh Gopi and Avtar Singh Pamma. As per media reports police said that they were arrested on Tuesday (July 11) during ‘crackdown’ by police teams of Nawanshahr, Ferozepur and Kapurthala districts.

Police claimed that Gurpreet Singh Gopi was arrested from Kohala village in Ferozepur while Avtar Singh Pamma was arrested from Bhanolanga village in Kapurthala.

It is notable here that the Punjab police usually indulges into a practise where persons are picked up from some other place and shows them as arrested from some other place on a later date after keeping them in police custody.

With these arrests the police claim to have solved two murder cases in which a Dera Sauda Sirsa follower of Faridkot district and a controversial dera chief in Rajasthan were killed in 2016. Police says that arrested persons were involved in killing of Gurdev Singh, a dera follower in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village of Faridkot on June 13, 2016. A controversial dera chief named Lakha Singh was killed in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan on November 23, 2016.

Police have booked Gurpeet Singh Gopi and Avtar Singh Pamma in two seperate FIRs registered under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and Indian Penal Code.

Punjab Police have arrested around two dozen Sikhs in last few months in relation to alleged militant activities.
