Chandigarh: Ahead of the Panchkula CBI court verdict in a rape and sexual case abuse against Dera Sauda Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim a high alter is sounded by the police administration in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
It is learnt that Punjab Director General of Police (law and order), in an alert to all Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), Inspector Generals (IGs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), warned that Dera followers are collecting petrol, diesel, sharp-edged weapons and stones.
“A warning letter issued by DGP (law and order) Hardeep Dhillon says the sect followers have been keeping drums filled with petrol and diesel at Naam Charcha Ghars, where they organise their prayer ceremonies, in Faridkot district. The alert also hints at sharp-edged weapons and stones being collected on the roof of such places“, reads a report in Times of India (ToI).
Dera followers have even issued violent threats and a video footage of them in Panipat showed them armed with batons, notes OutlookIndia (OI).
There is heavy deployment of para-military and police to precent untoward happenings.
