India and Pakistan Forces Exchange Fire at Line of Control (LoC) Amidst Pak Visit of Kulbhushan Jadhav’s Wife and Mother

Chandigarh: As per media reports, Pakistan and Indian forces are engaged in exchange of gun-fires along the Line of Control (LoC). As per a report in the Mid-Day, Pakistani forces yesterday (Dec. 25) again targeted Indian forward posts and villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, a day after an Army major and three soldiers were killed in firing from across the Line of Control (LoC). The report adds that Indian troops also engaged in firing at Pakistani posts and the firing between the two sides was ongoing till the time of writing the report.

Army Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas (L), Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, Lance Naik Kuldeep Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh were killed in LoC firing on Saturday.

Indian had maintained that Pakistani forces had opened fire on an Indian Army patrol team on on Saturday in which Army Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, Lance Naik Kuldeep Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh were killed.

A report in the Indian Express maintained that “[a] day after four Indian soldiers died on the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistani firing, one Pakistani soldier was killed on Sunday morning in firing by Army along the LoC”.

Reports in Indian media has quoted ‘Army sources’ saying that “the incident occurred at 11 am (on Sunday) when a Pakistan army sniper was seen taking a position and was “neutralised” by soldiers from the Indian post”.

Notably, the ceasefire on the LoC between India and Pakistan has been violated extensively in the past 18 months.

The current episode of exchange of fire along LoC comes when the mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav are visiting to meet him after Pakistan foreign office granted them permission. Jadhav, a retired Indian Navy officer, has been in Pakistan’s custody since March 2016 and is facing death sentence under charges of spying. The Pakistan army claims that Jadhav was arrested him Balochistan while India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after he took premature retirement from the Navy.
