Young Liberals of Canada condemn killings at Sikh Gurdwara at Wisconsin, USA

Toronoto (August 5, 2012): in the wake of violence targeting the Sikh Community in Wisconsin, the Young Liberals of Canada today issued a statement.
“We absolutely denounce the violence in Wisconsin and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this time. The violence at the Sikh Gurdwara in Oak Creek is deplorable.” chair of the Young Liberal’s of Canada’s multiculturalism taskforce, United Red, Veena Bhullar said in the statement sent to Sikh Siyasat.
Media reports from Wisconsin estimate that about 20 people were injured at the Gurdwara, and that the perpetrator used handguns. 7 are reported dead including 1 shooter who was taken down by a police officer, now in hospital.
“As someone who grew up actively involved in our local Gurdwara, I cannot imagine how someone could take such a place of harmony, respect and prayer and turn it into a place of terror. On behalf of myself and our young liberal organization our condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones today. It is something that should never have had to occur. We hope for a full recovery of those injured including the police officer who bravely put his life in danger to take down a shooter, he and his family are also in our prayers”, continued Bhullar. “
“This is an extremely upsetting situation for the Sikh community in Wisconsin but also here in Canada. On behalf of all Ontario Gurdwaras, I hope that all victims recover from the physical and psychological harm of these attacks. Our friends in Wisconsin are in our prayers” said Bhupinder Singh Ubbi, President of the Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council.
