Chandigarh: Forty eight candidates have filed nomination papers for the by-poll of Phagwara, Mukerian, Dakha and Jalalabad Assembly constituency today. A total of 54 candidates filed nomination papers during whole nomination process, which ended on September 30.
Divulging more, an official spokesperson of the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab informed that for Assembly constituency no 29 Phagwara 16 candidates, 11 candidates for Assembly constituency no 39 Mukerian, 11 for Assembly constituency no 68 Dakha (five candidates file nomination papers during the nomination process, now total 16 nomination papers had been filed so for for Dakha Assembly constituency ) and 10 for Assembly constituency no 79 Jalalabad and one candidate filed nomination paper in previous days now a total 11 candidate had filed their nomination paper for Jalalabad Assembly constituency.
He further said that on October 1, 2019 scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held and October 3, 2019 is last day to withdraw nomination papers.
Notably, Phagwara seat fell vacant after sitting MLA Som Nath was elected in MP. Similar is the case with Jalalabad seat as sitting MLA Sukhbir Singh Badal was elected as MP. Dakha seat had fell vacant after H S Phoolka resigned as MLA, whereas Mukerian seat fell vacant after the demised of Congress MLA Rajneesh Babbi.
