It has been reported by NDTV, news channel in India, that former Lt. General of Indian army was today stabbed by someone, reportedly a Sikh, outside a hotel in London.

“The 78-years old, who remained on the hit-list of Sikh militant groups, is believed to be in critical condition in a local hospital after surgery” NDTV has reported on it’s website.

According to information wife of K. S. Brar, who was accompanying him, was not subjected to attack.

NDTV has reported that “Lt. Gen. Brar usually lives in high-security cantonment area in South Mumbai”.

It is notable that attack on Darbar sahib and other Sikh Gurudwaras was codenamed as “Operation Blue Star” by Indian Army. Around 36 Sikh Gurudwaras were attacked by Indian army during so-called Operation blue star, including 18 Gurudwaras managed by Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee.

General Arun Vaidya had was the chief of Indian army when this attack was carried out in 1984. On August 10, 1986 he was assassinated by Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Harjinder Singh Jinda in Pune. After their arrest Bhai Sukha-Jinda had admitted the assassination of Arun Vaidya and cited historical tradition of Sikhs to bring invaders to justice as justification of this assassination. They happily accepted the death sentence awarded by Indian court and they were hanged on 9 October, 1992 in Yerwada Jail in Pune. They were later declared to be National martyrs of Sikhs and their martyrdom day is observed at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib every year.
