Chandigarh/ Punjab (April 09, 2013): It is learnt that the Punjab University Chandigarh’s alumni association invited former director general of police (DGP) KPS Gill, on April 08, 2013 to deliver a lecture on on ‘Terrorism in Punjab: Historian’s dilemma’.
KPS Gill reportedly slammed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for initially supporting ‘Sadda Haq’ Punjabi movie, that highlights police atrocities on civilian Sikh population of Punjab during 1980s and 1990s. As per information he demanded arrest of producers of Sadda Haq.
KPS Gill’s role in mass level atrocities on people of Punjab is well documents by many Human rights organizations.
Enforced disappearances, custodial torture and killings, fake encounters, secret cremations was common policing practice during his tenure.
All these abuses were widespread and systematic, which amounts to Crimes against Humanity under international law. By inviting such a violator to the University the alumni association has attempted to glorify a mass abuser of human rights.
