U.S. Court to hear Human Rights violation case against Congress (I) chief Sonia Gandhi on Oct 22

New York, USA (October 17, 2013): According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), a Federal Court of the United States of America (USA) has ordered initial status conference in the pending case against Congress President Sonia Gandhi for shielding human rights violators. Judge Brian M. Cogan will hold the status conference on October 22 in accordance with Fed. R. Civ. P. 16.
Rule 16 of Federal Rules of Civil Procedures provides that the court may hold the conferences for such purposes as: (1) expediting disposition of the action; (2) establishing early and continuing control so that the case will not be protracted because of lack of management; (3) discouraging wasteful pretrial activities; (4) improving the quality of the trial through more thorough preparation; and (5) facilitating settlement.

On a complaint filed by victims of November 1984 during Sonia Gandhi’s visit to US in September, US Federal Court issued summons against her alleging that Congress President has been shielding Kamal Nath, Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and other Congress party leaders from prosecution for their role in leading genocidal attacks against Sikhs.
Rights group “Sikhs for Justice” (SFJ) after being unable to personally deliver the summons to Sonia Gandhi, secured an order from court that service of summons and the complaint be accomplished by delivering a copy of the summons and complaint to Hospital administration and/or Staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center or to any of the security agents assigned to Sonia Gandhi during her stay in New York. Judge Cogan further directed the hospital and security staff to give summons and complaint to Sonia Gandhi.
According to Attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ, we will submit to the court affidavit of service and video footage showing delivery of summons and complaint on hospital and security staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The service of US Court summons on Sonia Gandhi is complete for all purposes, because Judge Cogan had allowed serving hospital and security staff of Sloan-Kettering instead of personally handing over the summons to Sonia Gandhi added attorney Pannun.
The complaint against Sonia Gandhi alleges that “from November 1 through November 4, 1984 approximately 30,000 members of a minority religious group “Sikhs” were intentionally tortured, raped and murdered by groups that were incited, organized, controlled and armed by the Congress (I), the ruling political party”. The victims are seeking compensatory and punitive damages against President of the Congress party for her role in protecting congress leaders from being prosecuted for their alleged crimes.
