Pak Punjab assembly’s Sikh member urged Akal Takht Jathedar to visit Pakistan

Amritsar, Punjab (October 23, 2013): It is learnt that a Sikh member of the provincial Assembly of Punjab in Pakistan is currently visiting Amritsar, Punjab. On October 22, 2013 he reportedly met the Akal Takht Jathedar at the Darbar Sahib, Amritsar and requested him to visit Pakistan at the earliest He urged Jathedar to take notice of the problems faced by the Sikhs in Pakistan.
Ramesh Singh Arora, a minority quota member of the Provincial Assembly in Pakistan, met Giani Gurbachan Singh and informed him about the problems being faced by Sikhs in Pakistan as regards matters concerning the running of Gurdwaras.

Ramesh Singh reportedly said that this year, the Pakistani Sikhs might avoid taking out a Nagar Kirtan on the Parkash Gurpurb of Guru Nanak Ji because of serious threats from outlawed outfits.
After meeting with the Giani Gurbachan Singh, Ramesh Singh reportedly told media persons that the Akal Takht Jathedar had agreed to visit Pakistan along with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
“It was neither possible nor feasible for each Sikh in Pakistan to visit India due to strict visa norms. In such circumstances, the SGPC preachers should visit Pakistan more frequently”, he reportedly added.
Ramesh Singh became the first Sikh in 67 years to enter Pakistan’s biggest provincial Assembly.
He said that he had come to India with a mission to use the shared religious linkages to further peace and trade between the two countries.
The Pakistan government had appointed him as a member of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
