Anandpur Sahib, Punjab (January 01, 2014): As per certain media reports Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said on Dec. 31, 2013 that the issue of Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib, Haridwar, was likely to be resolved soon.
According to Hindustan Times (HT): [t]alking to media persons [..], Avtar Singh Makkar said a meeting would be held with Uttarakhand chief minister Vijay Bahuguna on January 6 to sort the matter.
It is notable that Gurdwara Gian Godri was built at Hardwar to mark the memory of Guru Nanak Sahib’s visit to the place in 1504-05.
The Gurdwara Sahib was destroyed in November 1984 and the site was handed over to the Scouts and Guides Mission.
Sikh organisations have been demanding restoration of the Gurdwara Gian Godari but the Uttrakhand government was offering alternative land for the Gurdwara Sahib saying that it was not possible to restore the Gurdwara Sahib at it’s original site.
