Amritsar/Ludhiana, Punjab (November 11, 2012): According to certain media reports Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has granted a verbal clean chit to upcoming Bollywood film “Son of Sardar”.

The upcoming Hindi film, which is home production of actor-cum-producer Ajay Devgn had triggered a controversy as various Sikh personalities and organizations had found that certain scenes and dialogues were objectionable.

A Chandigarh based human rights lawyer Advocate Navkiran Singh had raised objections maintaining that the films could depict Sikhs in bad light. Similar apprehensions were raised by All India Sikh Students Federation (Peermohammad).

A promo of movie that was released on YouTube by Ajay Devgn was found to be containing objectionable contents. A criminal complaint based on the content of the promo is still pending at a court in Punjab and Ajay Devgn could be summoned in this matter.

On September 03, 2012 Ajay Devgn had a meeting with representatives of SGPC, AISSF besides Punjab Cabinet minister Bikramjit Singh Majithiya. After the meeting Ajay Devgn held a press conference where Majithiya and representatives of AISSF and SGPC were also present. Ajay Devgn had promised in front of media to remove the objectionable contents from the final print of the movie.

According to recent reports SGPC secretary Daljit Singh Bedi has granted a verbal clean chit to the movie. He is reported to have watched the final print of the movie at a local cinema house at Amritsar and after watching the movie he reportedly said that Ajay Devgn has removed all objectionable contents. Daljit Singh Bedi reportedly added that he would submit a report to the SGPC president in this regard.

AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that he had no clues about the content of final print of the movie. “But I have faith that Ajay Devgn would stand by his statement made before the media and all objectionable contents might be removed from the final version of movie”, Peermohammad added.

The movie is scheduled to be released on November 13, 2012.
