Amritsar, Punjab: A meeting of five Singh Sahibs was held at Akal Takhat Sahib on May 27. Jathedars of five Sikh Takhats reportedly held discussions about “Ghallughara” remembrance samgam to be held at Akal Takhat Sahib on June 06. As per reports, Jathedars discussed issued related to maintenance of discipline during this annual function. It is notable that clashes had taken place between SGPC task force and some youth groups last year during the 6 June samagams.
SGPC members and other SGPC officials, besides manager of Darbar Sahib also took part in this meeting.
Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said that he will contact the representatives of various Sikh bodies and a meeting will be convened with representative of Sikh groups to discuss the matter. He appealed to the Sikh organisations to make efforts to avoid any untoward incident during the samagam.
Jathedar also instructed the manager of Darbar Sahib to order Task force of Darbar Sahib to ensure peace during the samagam.
It is notable that mild altercation over SGPC’s denial to handover mic of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjeet Singh Mann for making a speech had turned into bloodily clashes between SGPC’s “Task Force” and some youth groups last year.
The SGPC task force had resorted to indiscriminate lathi-charge near Akal Takhat Sahib, many from the Sikh Sangat – including elderly and women were also hit.
