November 5, 2015 | By

Tarn Taran: Tension revisited Tarn Taran on Thursday when another incident of sacrilege of holy ‘Gutkas’ and ‘Pothis’ (Gurbani scriptures) took place village Mallia, situated on outskirts of Tarn Taran city on Jandiala Guru road.

Hundreds of torn pages of the Gurbani scriptures have been found scattered on the road which goes to cremation ground of the village, and in severs. Many of the pages have also been buried at nearby areas. The holy pages are torn into small pieces, which again hurt Sikh sentiments deeply. The incident has again made the atmosphere tense.

Local people and activists of Sikh organizations gathered in large number and they staged dharna on Tarn Taran-Jandiala Guru road blocking the traffic. The dharna was later lifted as the Sikh organizations and the administration agreed to form a joint investigation committee to find the culprits.

As per villagers, at around 10 am, a boy was going to the side of cremation ground on bicycle and he saw the torn pages scattered there. He immediately brought this to notice of other villagers who gathered there in large number. They found that very large number torn pages have been scattered and even buried on some places in plastic envelops. When they carried out more search, they saw that torn pages were thrown to sever along the half km of road.

After being informed about the incident, Tarn Taran deputy commissioner Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and various Police officers including SP (headquarter) Narinder Bedi, DSP Sukhwinder Singh, SHO of Sadar Police station Baljit Singh, sub-inspector Prabhjit Singh, sub-inspector Manjinder Singh, reached the spot.

They spoke nothing except giving assurance to the people to investigate the matter. Heavy Police force has been deployed at the village and surrounding areas.

Lashing out at the Police and its intelligence agencies, leaders of Sikh organizations who are leading the dharna staged on the road to block the traffic, said it was quite shameful that despite so many sacrilege incidents happened in the state, they were still clueless about the deep conspiracy behind it.

“The intelligence network of the government has totally failed to unearth the real conspiracy. The continuation of the incidents even questions the Police’s move of arresting Granthis and other persons in this connection. Had the arrested behind the sacrilege, more incidents would have been stopped to take place”, said Dr. Gurjinder Singh, president of Sikh Youth Federation.

Talking to media persons, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) vice president and former MP Dhian Singh Mand said, “Our patience is being examined by committing such blasphemous acts. Without the will of the government, not even single leaf can be stirred. So Parkash Singh Badal is responsible for the incidents and he should resign immediately if he is unable to deliver justice to Sikhs”.

Connecting the recent incidents with ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ congregation, he said recent happenings in a Moga village and here can be a conspiracy of Badal government to divert people’s attention from Sarbat Khalsa”.

Some protesters also doubted followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and some other deras were behind the blasphemy. United Akali Dal leader Satnam Singh Manawa, Sikh Youth Front president Sharanjit Singh Rataul, Satkar Committee leader Balbir SIngh Muchhal and Manjit Singh Chabhal were among those who were present at dharna spot.

Earlier, sacrilege incident happened in village Baath, following which protests erupted on large scale. The demonstrations, shutdowns and blockade of roads had continued for more 10 days in the district hitting normal life.
