Antim Sanskar of Avtar Singh Khanda held in England by Sangat

Birmingham: Last rites of slain Sikh activist Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda were held in Birmingham (England) on August 12 by the Sikh sangat, representatives of Sikh organizations and companions of Avtar Singh. Thousands of Sikhs participated in his last rites.

Notably, Avtar Singh passed away in a hospital on 15 June 2023. The exact cause of his death was under question as certain pro-India section maintained that he was assassinated by Indian agencies by secretly administering poison.

Avtar Singh Khanda’s mother Mata Charanjit Kaur, and his sister, could not performed his last rites as they were denied visa by British authorities. They witnessed Antim Sanskar of Bhai Avtar Signh Khanda through mobile screen from their Punjab based house.

Born in 1988, Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda was son of Shaheed Kulwant Singh Khukhrana. He moved to England from Punjab in 2011 and was actively participating in Sikh activities there. He was  targeted by Indian agencies and media outlets for his activism.

After the Antim Sanskar (cremation),  an Antim Ardas Samgam was held in the memory of Avtar Singh Khanda at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Smethwick (Birmingham).

During this samgam, Sikh youth activists released a report containing facts and evidence about circumstances surrounding Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda’s death. The report concluded that Avtar Singh Khanda’s death was unnatural, and causes of his death were related to targeting of Avtar Singh Khanda by Indian agencies. The report also concluded that the British authorities were indulged in coverup of Indian hand behind Avtar Singh Khanda’s death.

In wake of facts revealed in the report, the Sikh sangat declared the death of Avtar Singh Khanda as “Shahadat“.

Representatives of Sikh organizations of United Kingdom, Europe and North America attended Antim Ardas Samagam and paid tributes of of Shaheed Avtar Singh Khanda.

In Punjab, Panth Sewak Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Sikh activist Sukhjeet Singh Khose, Sikh Siyasat editor Parmjeet Singh Gazi, local Sikh representatives Gurpritam Singh Cheema, Balbir Singh Badhni Kalan and Amarjit Singh Dala visited house of Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda today.
