New Delhi, India (February 01, 2014): It is learnt that the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on January 31 that a formal proposal for establishing Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe in the 1984 Sikh massacre will be passed in the next cabinet meeting scheduled to be held next week.
As per certain media reports Arvind Kejriwal said: “They (the BJP and the Congress) were in power, yet they just kept demanding (a probe in the November 1984 Sikh massacre). We came to power, and I met the Lt. Governor some days back to demand a probe.”
He was addressing the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) central executive committee meet in Delhi.
It may be recalled that demand for setting us SIT was raised by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his party-men in Delhi in May last year after the dramatic acquittal of Sikh genocide accused Sajjan Kumar in a November 1984 related case on 30 April 2013.
It is notable that thousands of Sikhs were brutally massacred and burnt alive in November 1984 in an organized manner in India. The Sikhs were targeted throughout India with genocidal intent. Indian state, including the governments led by the Congress Party patronized and protected the culprits for last three decades.
The effectiveness of any SIT, as proposed by the Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi, at this late stage remains to be seen, but this move is being viewed as a sincere effort of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to address the concerns of justice.
