Karnal, Haryana (March 14, 2013): According to information available with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Bhai Swaran Singh Kotdharmu and Bhai Mahinder Singh Asandh were today released on bail from Karnal Jail, Haryana.
It is learnt that a division bench of Justice S. S. Saron and Justice S. S. Bangar of Punjab and Haryana High Court (Chandigarh) had granted bail to Swaran Singh and Mahinder Singh on March 12, 2013. Pursuant to the bail orders, duo were released from Karnal Jail at around 7 PM on March 14.
They were received by Mata Malkeet Kaur (mother of Bhai Swaran Singh), Bhai Sukhwinder Singh (Head of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar Sabha – Haryana), Bhai Baljinder Singh Khalsa (Ek Noor Fauj), Bhai Mandhir Singh (Secretary General, Akali Dal Panch Pardhani), Bhai Jarnail Singh Hussainpur, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur and Bhai Palwinder Singh Uklana, besides others, outside the jail.
It is notable that Dera Sauda Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim had hurt the feelings of the Sikh Sangat by attempting to personifying himself as Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in May 2007. Personification of Sikh Gurus is strictly prohibited in Sikhism and is considered an act of blasphemy.
The matter had taken a serious turn when some peacefully protesting Sikhs attacked by thousands of Dera followers at Bathinda in a planned way on May 14, 2007.
A Sikh gathering was called by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib Jathedar at Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib on May 17, 2007; and then at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib on May 20, 2007.
An edict was issued by Jathedars of Sikh Takhats calling upon Sikh Sangat to boycott the Dera Sauda cult. The appropriate governments were called upon to arrest and charge Dera head for his blasphemous activities. But instead of arresting the dera head the Indian state and respective government continued to patronize the dera head.
Representing the anger of Sikh Sangat various Sikh organizations formed Khalsa Action Committee to put pressure of the government. The KAC held many Khalsa Marches besides protest dharnas but the government did not hear to the Sikh voices and dera head was allowed to continue with his notorious activities.
In this situation a bid was allegedly made on the life of Dera Sauda Sirsa head near Nilokheri, Karnal on February 02, 2008.
In this case eight arrests were made by the police on different occasions from different locations.
On September 12, 2012 seven persons namely Bakshish Singh Baba, Swaran Singh Kotdharmu, Bhai Hoshiar Singh Jhanda Kalan, Mahinder Singh Asandh, Jasvir Singh Jassa, Gurinder Singh Ghona and Dharminder Singh were convicted by the trial court while one Bibi Parveen Kaur was acquitted.
Bakhshish Singh, Swaran Singh and Mohinder Singh were sentenced to undergo to 10-year imprisonment under Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act; while Gurinder Singh (Patiala), Hoshiar Singh (Jhandakalan, Mansa), Dharminder Singh (UP) and Jaswant Singh alias Jassa were sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
Gurinder Singh Ghona, Dharminder Singh Bhinda, Hoshiar Singh Jhandakalan and Jasbir Singh Jassa were granted bail by Punjab and Haryana High Court in November 2012.
It is worth mentioning here that the appeal filed by seven Sikhs convicted in this case, against their conviction, is still pending in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
