Bathinda/ Faridkot, Punjab (August 31, 2014): According to media reports, Bathinda police on Saturday claimed through an email that Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal has sent a handwritten note that he had resigned from the ad hoc Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC).
According to Daily Peheredar, a Punjabi vernacular, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal briefly talked to press reporters outside Faridkot jail on August 30 and further that he also handed over a handwritten note to the reporters declaring his resignation from HSGMC. He reportedly said that Jagdish Singh Jhinda has “politicized” the HSGMC by announcing support for the Congress party in Haryana assembly polls. Daduwal reportedly said that he was resigning from HSGMC.
But according to Times of India (TOI), Sukhmeet Kaur, wife of Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal termed the police claims as baseless, saying the note could be fake and circulated to defame her husband.
Sukhmeet Kaur says that she was with her husband in Mansa when he was being handed over to the Faridkot police on August 31. She said that her husband did not not disclose any plans to quit HSGMC.
She said, “I have no knowledge of any such note written by him. The note could be a fake to defame my husband.”
Meanwhile, Haryana committee vice-president Didar Singh Nalwi has also denied knowledge of any such note from Daduwal.
Brief Background:
It may be recalled that Baba Daduwal was arrested on August 21 after the polling for byelections in Punjab was over. He was arrested by Faridkot police in a 5 years old case registered at Bajakhana. The Faridkot police also registered a fresh case against Baba Daduwal and two others under Arms Act.
Mansa district police has also reopened a 3 years old case against Baba Daduwal that was registered by Bhikhi police of Mansa district. Mansa police has also registered a fresh case against Baba Daduwal under Arms Act.
The supporters of Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal have been accusing Parkash Singh Badal led Punjab government for playing politics of vengeance against Baba Daduwal, who had led a group of HSGMC supporters to takeover control of a historic Gurdwara Sahib in Guhla-Cheeka (Haryana) despite opposition from SGPC and the Badal Dal.
