NewDelhi: As per the media reports coming in from New Delhi the Supreme Court of India here on Thursday has once again delayed the proceedings related to the plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with the court while challenging the dropping of criminal conspiracy charges against L K Advani and other top leaders of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Babri Masjid Demolition case of 1992.
This time SCI has postponed the hearing for upto two weeks the next hearing in this matter shall take place on 6th April 2017, it is being claimed by L K Advani’s counsel KK Venugopal that he is occupied by other cases, which lead to yet another delay. Earlier this week (22nd March) the date of hearing was shifted to 23rd March 2017 citing the excuse of non availability of Justice Rohinton Nariman.
Earlier this month the Supreme Court of India reportedly expressing its concern has asked to fast-track the trails and proceedings related to the Babri Masjid Demolition case, furthermore the court has also suggested clubbing of Raebareli and Lucknow cases.
It was on 18th February 2011 the CBI moved to Supreme Court of India while challenging the Allahabad High Court’s verdict in which it has stated to drop criminal conspiracy charges against L K Advani, Uma Bharti and Murli Manohar Joshi & then UP Chief Minister and present Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh and other BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders.
The sensitive issue has returned to the limelight after the BJP in the name of ‘Hindutva’ grabbed power in Uttar Pradesh with a brute majority, which may ignite already explosive situation as the supporters of the party may propose a plan to build a Ram temple at the site, notes the media its report.
The mosque was demolished on December 6, 1992 by Hindutva outfit Vishva Hindu Parishad kar sevaks, sparking communal riots across the country that left more than 3,000 people dead.
