New Delhi, India (May 23, 2014): The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) swept away recent Lok Sabha elections in India, but it’s performance in Punjab was quite low.
Arun Jaitly, who is party of BJP’s top brass at India level, has to face major defeat in his first ever eletion from Amritsar seat. Punjab’s ruling SAD (Bada)-BJP combine was able to secure only 6 out 13 seats in the state.
The in charge of BJP affairs in Punjab and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shanta Kumar, has urged the party’s central leadership to take urgent measures to revive the party in the wake of its poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Shanta Kumar reportedly said that a meeting of the BJP’s core group in Punjab would be held on May 25 to discuss the dismal performance and to prepare a roadmap for the future.
As per certain media reports, Shanta Kumar said that there was a strong anti-incumbency against the SAD (B)-BJP Government on account of the “poor image” of some ministers.
“The BJP was not able to make an impact due to the negative image of some powerful Akali ministers,” Shanta Kumar reported said.
He said the poll results in the state were disturbing as the party could not cash in on the pervasive Modi-wave.
