Chandigarh (March 20, 2010): In two distinct Wanted Notices of same pattern published in a prominent newspaper of the Punjab, the Punjab police today declared a reward of Rs. 5 lack (each) for the arrest of Bakhsish Singh alias Baba and Harminder Singh.
The Wanted Notice published in today’s newspapers say that ‘Punjab police has announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh for the arrest of Bakhshish Singh S/o Rattan Singh, District Patiala, who is wanted for planting IEDs at Gas Bottling Plant, Nabha and Air Base Station, Halwara.’
Another notice of same pattern says that ‘Punjab police has announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh for the arrest of Harminder Singh S/o Gurmail Singh resident of Ludhiana City, who is a Proclaimed Offender in Shingar Cinema Blast Case.’
It is notable that the police was previously claiming that Bakhshish Singh has recently returned to Punjab from Pakistan and Harminder Singh is based in some foreign country. But today’s Wanted Notice says that ‘Harminder Singh has been recently spotted in Punjab’ but no such information is given in other notice as regards Bakhsish Singh.
Notices do not carry name of any issuing authority but two mobile contact numbers are given at the end of notice. It assures that identity of the informant shall be kept secret.
Punjab police is suspecting revival of militancy in Punjab. A Union minister has also recently informed the house of Parliament of India that there are signs of attempts being made to revive militancy in Punjab. But on the other hand Sikh organizations are alleging political and police conspiracy behind these statements; their argument is that the State wants to terrify people of Punjab in order to suppress their democratic struggle.
