Ludhiana, Punjab: The Ludhiana police admitted Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa to Civil Hospital Ludhiana late this evening, after he was picked up from his house. In an action undertaken in parts, firstly the police broke down public support for Bapu Surat Singh. The police had been blocking all the roads leading to village Hassanpur for last few days. Sangharsh committee leaders and other supporters of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa were arrested on 18 and 19 July and they were sent to various jails in Punjab.
Earlier today the police stormed at Bapu Surat Singh’s house, resorted to lathi-charge and arrested his supporters who had gathered at his house for past few days. About two hours after that the police picked up Bapu Surat Singh and brought him to Civil Hospital Ludhiana in an ambulance.
Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s son Ravinder Jeet Singh Gogi informed his father to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana. “Police has admitted to Bapu Ji at Civil Hospital (Ludhiana)”, he told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone.
In a brief talk to the media before at the time of his arrest Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa said that he was committed to the cause of Sikh Political Prisoners. “I will remain committed to the cause of Sikh political prisoners until my last breath”, he said.
It may be recalled here that Bapu Surat Singh had started his indefinite hunger strike on January 16 demanding release of Sikh political prisoners. This is third time that the police has hospitalised him since January 16.
