Ludhiana (September 24, 2009) Judicial custody of Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu, Chairman of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Panch Pardhani has been extended till 8th October, 2009 and he is sent back to Amritsar Jail. Earlier today the police brought Bhai Bittu from Amritsar Jail and produced before Magistrate at Ludhiana, who extended the custody for fourteen more days. In a strange move the Punjab Police did not bother to produce Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, Palwinder Singh Chattrana and Gurdeep Singh Raju before the Magistrate who are also framed by the Police along with Bhai Bittu under ULA(P) Act 1967. Majhpur and Chattrana are currently confined at Ludhiana Jail while Raju is in Bathinda Jail.

Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Secretary General of Panch Pardhani informed SikhSiyasat Network over phone that they have moved an application regarding illegal confinement of JS Manjhpur and two others. ‘As it is obligatory for the State to produce person on judicial custody before Magistrate when their lawful custody ends. But the police has failed to produce them hence their custody has turned to be illegal.’ said Bhai Cheema. ‘We have brought this fact to the knowledge of Magistrate who is yet to decide the fate of application moved in this regard’ he added.

It is learnt that Jaspal Singh Manjhur (media committee member of Panch Pardhani) was arrested from Ludhiana based head office of this Sikh Political Party on 27 August 2009 at around 2:30 PM (IST), while Gurdeep Singh Raju (A servant/attendant at Panch Pardhani Office) is beleived to have been picked up by the Police a day before Manjhpur’s arrest.

Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu and his driver Palwinder Singh Chattrana were arrested by police at around 8:30 PM (IST) on 27th August 2009 from 21F, Gurdev Nagar Ludhiana based residence of Bhai Bittu. Police has charged them under sections 15, 17, 18 & 18A of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967; most of these sections are amended/inserted by Indian Legislature after 26/11 incident at Mumbai and are considered as masked revival of TADA & POTA like black laws that were struck down after apparent misuse in the hands of biased Police machinery and corrupt political set-up of India.
