Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara acquitted in 25 years old TADA case by Ropar court

Ropar, Punjab: A local court in Ropar yesterday acquitted Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in a case that was registered under TADA and Arms Acts. The case was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunita Kumari Sharma through video conferencing.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was facing five cases in Ropar’s local courts. He has been acquitted in the second case within last two months.

On February 24, he was acquitted in a case registered against him under the Arms Act due to lack of evidence.

The case in which Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was acquitted yesterday was registered on September 22, 1991.

The prosecution had alleged that he was involved in an encounter with the police on September 2, 1991, near Hawara village. Three police personnel were injured in the incident. The case initially registered against unidentified persons and Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s name was included at a later stage.
