Surrey/ Canada (November 11, 2013): It is learnt that the annual blood donation drive by the Sikh nation began on November 01, 2013 this year. This humanitarian campaign was started in 1999 in the memory of the victims of the Sikh genocide 1984 who were brutally reduced to ashes in various parts on India in November 1984 in a systematic manner.
As per information the blood donation drive received a tremendous response in Surrey and Vancouver, as Sikh men and women, in large numbers, came forward to donate blood.
A Sikh volunteer Narinder Singh, who donated his blood for 196th time, said that the blood donation drive would present better image of the Sikhs before the world and it’s a true service to the humanity as well. According to information the blood donation drive has saved more than 1,00,000 lives so far.
Sarah Jasmine, representative of Canadian Blood services reportedly told that the Sikh blood donation drive in the month of November uses to fill the previous deficit of blood as well.
It is notable that in November 1984 the Sikhs were made target of genocidal violence in India. Thousands of Sikhs were killed in various massacres that were part of a wider plan of the Sikh genocide. Sikh nation commemorates the anniversary of the genocide in different ways annually.
The ‘Annual Sikh Blood Donation Drive 2013’ was conducted at Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Ontario, Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria (BC), Kelowna, Prince George, Kamloops and Abbotsford in Canada; Chicago, Seattle, Bakersfield, Columbus, Plano, Brookfield in United States of America (USA) and Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Shepparton and Hobart in Australia.
