Burrail Jail Break Case: Hawara, Bheora convicted, Others acquitted by trial court [UPDATED]

Chandigarh: As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), a trial court in Chandigarh today acquitted Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara and Paramjit Singh Bheora were convicted by a trial court in burial jailbreak case but 13 other persons against whom trial was held were acquitted.

Defence lawyer Advocate Amar Singh Chahal, council of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bheora has confirmed the development.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bheora were convicted in this case but the court said the court adjusted their sentenced against already undergone jail term in this case.

It is notable that besides Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjit Singh Bheora, Jagtar Singh Tara and Devi Singh who had broke out of Burial jail 15 other persons were also named in case.

Bibi Baljit Singh had died during the trial and Gurvinder Singh Goldy and Devi Singh are declared proclaimed offender, while Jagtar Singh Tara is still facing this trail.

Eight Persons namely Gurdeep Singh, Narain Singh Chaura, Sher Singh, Subeg Singh, Nanad Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Gurnam Singh and HP Singh were acquitted by the court of CJM Anubhav Sharma.

Six jail officials D S Rana (Jail Superintendent), D S Sandhu (Deputy), P S Rana (Assistant), VM Gill (Deputy Jail Superintendent), Nishan Singh (Head Warden) and Inder Singh (Warden) were also acquitted by the court.

It is notable that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjit Singh Bheora and Jagtar Singh Tara along with another person had broke out of Chandigarh Model jail Burrail on January 22, 2004.


Note1: Initially it was reported that all persons, against whom the trial was held, were acquitted by the trial court. But later it was found that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bheora were convicted in this case, while 13 others were acquitted. (UPDATED at 17:10 hrs, IST on August 11, 2015).
