New Delhi, India (March 25, 2014): Congress has released 7th list of Lok Sabha candidates. This list including candidates for the three remaining parliamentary seats of Punjab.
The list of 12 candidates released on March 25 also names candidates for Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur.
The candidates announced for three Punjab seats include :
Constituency |
Congress party’s Candidate |
Ludhiana |
Ravneet Singh Bittu |
Jalandhar |
Chaudhary Santokh Singh |
Hoshiarpur |
Mohinder Singh Kaypee |
It is notable that Congress had previously fielded Ravneet Bittu, sitting MP, from Anandpur Shaib constituency, but afterwards he was replaced with Ambika Soni. Now has been fielded Ludhiana. Manish Tewari, the union minister and the sitting Congress MP from Ludhiana was reluctant to fight election from Ludhiana. He had conveyed to the party that he won’t be able to fight election. Tewari had cited health reasons for opting out of the electoral race.
Former PPCC president and Jalandhar MP Mohinder Singh KP would now be party candidate from Hoshiarpur. Congress Party has thus denied ticket to sitting Hoshiarpur MP and union minister Santosh Chaudhary.
Santokh Singh Chaudhary, a former cabinet minister would be party candidate from Jalandhar in place of Mohinder Singh Kaypee. His son and Punjab Youth Congress president Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary was in fact in race for the ticket but the party opted for the Chaudhary senior.
Congress candidate and sitting MP from Sangrur, Vijay Inder Singla was lucky enough to retain his seat. As expected he was not replaced with Ms. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.
