Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has put foot in mouth by ‘promising to hold Dera Sauda Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’ in Punjab in exchange of dera’s promise to vote SAD (Badal) in Feb. 4 polls. In attempt to get dera’s support in elections the SAD (Badal) has risked it’s Sikh support base- a large section of which is already disillusioned from the SAD (B). The move is likely to backfire in the remainder Sikh support base of the SAD (B) as the Dera Sauda Sirsa is known for it’s anti-Sikh activities.

A number of Sikh organizations have  strongly condemned SAD (Badal) for refreshing ties with the controversial dera. Paramjit Singh Sarna, former chief of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (DSGMC), has urged the Akal Takht Sahib to take strong note of Badal Dal’s ‘anti-Sikh move’. Sarna said that the SAD (Badal) has violated the 17 May, 2007 Hukumnama issued by the then Singh Sahibs – Giani Joginder Singh Vendanti, Giani Iqbal Singh, Giani Tarlochan Singh, Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh and Giani Jagtar Singh. The Hukumnama had directed Sikhs not to keep any social or political ties with the controversial dera in wake of dera chief’s notorious attempt to personify himself as tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
