Ropar: Surjit Gag, who is infamous for writing offensive write-ups against Sikhs, is reportedly arrested on a complaint moved by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC). A blasphemous and offensive write-up (poem) posted by Surjit Gag over social networking platform called Facebook had triggered outrage amongst Sikh circles.
The Ropar district police arrested him on Sunday (July 10) on the charge of hurting religious feelings. A case was registered against him at Anandpur Sahib police station under Section 295-A of the IPC on a complaint filed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Media reports note that SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu said the complaint was lodged by Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib manager Ranjit Singh.
Meanwhile, some Left section who had maintained silence over Surjit Gag’s offensive write-ups have criticised his arrest.
