Amritsar: The Punjab Police on Sunday (7 December 2025) registered an FIR against 16 persons, including the former Chief Secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the former Secretary of its Dharam Parchar Committee (DPC), in connection with the case of 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
The FIR No. 168/2025 (check copy below) was lodged at Police Station C Division, Amritsar, under Sections 295, 295A, 409, 465 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code. The action follows nearly five years of the Panthic Hoka protest launched by Baldev Singh Wadala of the Sikh Sadbhavna Dal seeking accountability in the matter.
The FIR was registered after assurances by Aam Aadmi Party leaders Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Harjot Singh Bains during their recent visit to the protest site.

The SGPC criticised the move as government interference in Sikh institutions. The missing saroops issue had surfaced in June 2020 following ledger discrepancies at the SGPC publication house. A subsequent Akal Takht probe had confirmed serious irregularities in records.
