Hoshiarpur (May 14, 2010): The Dal Khalsa calls upon the Sikh masses to recognize and reject that leadership who for their personal benefits are damaging the collective cause of the Sikhs.
In a policy statement released to the media on the occasion of tercentenary of Sikh rule established by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, the organization chief H S Dhami said they were fully convinced that the future of Sikh people lies in seeking and obtaining the right to self-determination. Showing their deep commitment towards Sikh cause, he said their group’s rank and file would take pro-active steps to keep the flame of freedom burning.
“On this auspicious occasion we assert that Sikhs as a Nation has been struggling for its freedom against all odds, refusing to submit to those who aim to eliminate their identity and crush their rightful aspirations”.
“It was a matter of great pride that Sikhs have a legacy of sovereignty. They have had self-rule for many years and decades. However, it was a matter of regret that Sikhs have had their sovereignty usurped by the Indian state in 1947, either by chicanery of Indian leaders or by default of their own leadership”, he said.
However Mr Dhami observed that the future of Sikh Nation does not lie in gloating over about the past. It depends on what Sikhs do in the present, and what active steps they take to preserve their identity and achieve their political goals, he pointed out.
Urging Akali leaders of different shades to pause for introspection about their roles in the parameters of the Sikh sovereignty, he said they should not function as tools in the hands of the forces determined to dilute the Sikh identity and the concept of Sikh nationhood.
Party spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh said in consonance with the spirit of celebrations of the tercentenary of Sikh rule, we urge the Punjab government to release all detainees languishing in jails that took to arms to establish Sikh state in recent times.
