Dal Khalsa lauds Burmese iconic leader Suu Kyi’s thoughts

Jalandhar, Punjab (November 18, 2012): The Dal Khalsa has lauded Burmese iconic leader Aung San Suu Kyi for emphasizing on people to people relations rather than the governments. It also appreciated Nobel laureate for taking a jibe at ‘India’ on latter’s double standards vis-à-vis gross human rights violations in Burma.

Notably, Indian state remained extensively engaged with Burmese military leadership in those times when fundamental rights of pro-democracy supporters including their leader Suu Kyi were brutally crushed by men in uniform over there. Suu Kyi while delivering lecture in New Delhi said “her people felt abandoned by India during her hard days”.

The organization showered praises for the political maturity and soberness she exhibited during her five day visit to India. “We would be urging the SGPC to invite her to visit Golden Temple, Amritsar whenever she visits the country next time”, Dal Khalsa secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh said here.

After Nelson Mandela, it’s the Suu Kyi, who is “an inspiration for all who believe in freedom of speech, democracy, liberty and respect for human rights,” said he.

Calling Suu Kyi “a global symbol of moral courage”, he said she has always been an inspiring figure for all those who believe in non-violent struggle.

Describing her as a person of principles and integrity, he said Sikh leaders, especially those who are struggling or incarcerated, has lot to learn from Suu Kyi’s life.

Expressing his deep concern over the killings of Muslim Rohingyas in Burma, he urged Suu Kyi not to remain silent, rather exert her influence on Myanmar junta to deliver justice to aggrieved community. Notably, US president Barack Obama is visiting Myanmar very shortly and is expected to take up Rohingya issue with country’s leadership.
