Amritsar, Punjab: Firing a salvo against the SGPC for not adhering to the pressing demand of Sikh Panth to remove the present Takhat jathedar’s, the Dal Khalsa says removal of Gaini Gurbachan Singh and two others was ‘essential’ for peace within the community.
The organization’s senior leaders H S Dhami and Kanwar Pal Singh took a strong exception to the decision of executive committee not to remove the present incumbents. They were of the view that Panth at large has already rejected the disgraced Jathedar’s as they had lost their credibility and trust within the community after they took faulty decision to pardon Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
They said it’s shame on the SAD controlled SGPC for not respecting the feelings and concerns of large segment of the community that no longer wants to see the present jathedar’s to remain on seat. Even the five beloved ones feel betrayed by the SGPC on this matter, they observed.
Justifying their hardened position, they said the Sikhs at large including theirs group neither accepts Gaini Gurbachan Singh and two others as head of temporal seats nor do they subscribe to the resolution of Nov 10 congregation that appointed jathedar’s of three Takhat without following any norms and procedures. As the saying goes, two wrongs can’t make one right, they said the silent majority within the community was facing piquant situation as they have been sandwiched between ‘two wrongs’.
Referring to the statement of the DGP Suresh Arora that he has instructed the police to abide by rule of law, they said it is easier said than done. “Had it been the case, the police would have refused the state government orders to slap sedition charges against the organizers of the Nov 10 event”. Taking a dig at the state government led by Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal for interfering in religious matters of the Sikhs, they said it’s dangerous precedent that has serious fallouts.
They said notwithstanding the managed crowd in the SAD’s rally, people were still angry with the ruling Akalis for their religious misconduct and corrupting religious institutions.
