Amritsar (June 17, 2012): Dal Khalsa has written a protest letter to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal alleging that the Gurdaspur administration backed by the BJP and “over-confident” police force was not allowing the law to take its own course in the case of Jaspal Singh, student of Beant College of Engineering who fell into the bullets of police in Gurdaspur town on 29th March.

Notably, Jaspal Singh was hit by a bullet while he was participating in a demonstration against the sacrilege act of Shiv Sanik’s on the day of Punjab Bandh.

In a strong worded letter, party’s political secretary Kanwar Pal Singh wrote since that fateful day, Jaspal Singh’s aggrieved parents have been running from pillar to post to seek justice for their son but to no avail. Despite widespread Sikh protests against denial of justice, things have been allowed to come to a pass”.

Taking a dig at those who were opposing the martyrs memorial, he said the peace of Punjab will not get disturbed with the construction of memorial in memory of June 1984 martyrs as falsely portrayed by the Congress, the BJP and the Union Home Ministry. But it will certainly be at risk, if justice is denied, voices of reasoning were suppressed and rights’ of people were crushed. He accused Congress and BJP for arousing communal passions that could vitiate the atmosphere in Punjab.

The letter stated that bowing to the pressure from Sikh Sangat and Jathedar Akal Takht, Badal government on 31st March suspended the city SSP and booking DSP under murder charges. However, almost 75 days have passed and the administration has not initiated action against the guilty.

Even the Shiv Sainik’s, who were booked under section 295-A IPC for putting on fire the religious symbol (Turbans) of Sikhs, were roaming freely, the letter pointed out.

How come that every time the wounds of Sikhs are allowed to fester, asked the leader of the radical group? Reminding Mr Badal of genesis of the recent unrest, he said the emergence of Sikh struggle in Punjab was the outcome of the justice denied in the killings of 13 innocent Sikhs by neo-Nirankaris in April 1978. Even at that time you were the Chief Minister, he adds.

“While we would not like to serve a warning, we would like to point out that even in the case of Jaspal Singh, wounds are being allowed to fester”. “We hope Badal would not like the history to be repeated as for him, it is a proud moment in his life by being the Chief Minister for the record fifth time”.

The letter mentioned that Jaspal Singh’s kith and kin have served ultimatum to the administration for arresting the guilty till June 20.

The copy of the letter has also been sent to Punjab Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and principal secretary home Mr D.S Bains.
