Amritsar, Punjab (June 02, 2013): Dal Khalsa has resolved to undertake a Genocide Remembrance Parade on 5th June to mark the 29th anniversary of army attack on Sikh Faith code-named Blue Star. The decision was taken at a meeting of office bearers held at party head-office on June 01, 2013.

The march would start from Dal Khalsa office and conclude at Akal Takht. An Ardas will be performed in the memory of those who were killed during the attack at newly-constructed Gurdwara in memory of 84 martyrs.

The spokesperson of the party, Kanwarpal Singh while addressing the media said, “Since 1984, there has been change in political leadership with some Sikhs at the helm of affairs both at centre and the state. This however has not healed our wounds of June 84.”

He said the aim of ‘Genocide Remembrance Parade’ was to reiterate the cause for thousands of Sikhs who laid down their lives in 1984 while defending the attack on their faith adding that no issue of Sikhs has been solved till date, he said. To carry forward the message of martyrs, he said hundreds of party activists carrying Saffron flags will march on the lanes and streets of the holy city of Amritsar on the eve of attack on Darbar Sahib in 1984.

He said the Indian state has attacked our holiest shrine, ruining our pride and honour, killing and incarcerating thousands, but the irony of it all is that “India is still a great secular nation” and Sikhs have been deliberately and systematically portrayed as “terrorists”.

Condemning the 1984 events, president of the Sikh Youth of Punjab, Ranbir Singh said the sacrifice of the June 1984 martyrs would never be allowed to go in vain”. He said representatives of like-minded groups will also participate in the function.
