Amritsar : Stating that the June 1984 army assault on Sikh holiest place Darbar Sahib and top temporal seat Akal Takhat has permanently been etched on the collective consciousness of the Sikhs, the Dal Khalsa has decided to take out a ‘Holocaust (Ghallughara) Remembrance Parade’ in Amritsar on June 5 evening starting from Gurdwara Akali Baba Phoola Singh Burj to Akal Takhat Sahib.
Commemorating 39 years of the attack, the Dal Khalsa urged all local gurdwara committees in Punjab to hold Ardas Samagam on June 6 and pass resolution against India’a action against Sikh faith codenamed “Operation Blue Star”.
Informing the media about their plans Paramjit Singh Mand, spokesperson of the pro-freedom Sikh organisation said we want people at grass root level should get engaged. The entire responsibility to express Sikh pain should not be left to handful of representative groups and individuals. We, as a community should express our joint pain at all level”.
We are undertaking a Holocaust remembrance parade in Amritsar to pay homage to the people who fought and to tell the government of India that we have not forgotten and forgiven the perpetrators of the attack,” he told the media.
Much water has flown down the rivers of Punjab since 1984. There was a change in political leadership with some Sikhs at the helm of affairs both at centre and the state. This has not healed our wounds of June 1984,” Dal Khalsa leader told media persons here.
He said: “Wounds are still simmering, even after 39 years. Especially the wounds, which have been left to neglect. Sikhs will never forget the brutality of the state nor the supreme sacrifices made by around 300 fearless Sikhs who fought till their last breath to defend the sanctity of the holiest shrine.”
Gen Secy. Paramjit Singh Tanda ridiculed those Sikh leaders that have recently joined BJP and AAP and were constantly attempting to erase this period from the public memory.
Dal Khalsa senior leader Kanwarpal Singh said “The Sacrifice of the June 1984 Martyrs” would never be allowed to go in vain.
Extending their Support to the struggle of the women wrestlers, who have been protesting for a long time regarding the arrest of President of Indian Wrestling Federation and MP of BJP, the Dal Khalsa leader strongly condemned the Delhi police for resorting to violence means against them.
He said that this shameful and undemocratic act of the Delhi Police, which works under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, happened when the inauguration ceremony of the new building of the Indian Parliament was going on. Taking a dig, he said on the one hand in Delhi, the democracy was being ruined, on the other, the Prime Minister of Hindu-Rashtra, Narendra Modi, was inaugurating the new center of democracy as per Hindu customs and methodology putting an end to the illusion of “India being a secular country”.
