Uttarakahnd: In an apparent damage control exercise the Chamoli district police posted a video on Facebook page titled Chamoli Police later this evening in which a police officer said that there was no official orders to the Uttrakhand police to remove the Sikh flags from vehicles of Sikh Yatris.
It is notable that the clarification is offered by a police personnel who is in Sikh appearance.
Introducing himself as Harbans Singh, a DSP of Chamoli (Uttarakahnd) police, the officer maintained that there were orders to remove “sticks” that were improperly tied on motorcycles as there was risk of accident.
He maintained that the Chamoli police or Uttarakhand police had no intention to disrespect “Nishan Sahib” or “Khanda Sahib”.
He appealed to the “Sadh Sangat” (a reference apparently for the Sikh sangat) to “Like” and “Share” his video so that the “communal situation to get disturbed”.
But as per his clarification the order was to remove improperly tied-up sticks from motorcycles. The video was posted earlier in the day showed Uttarakhand police officials removing Kesri flags even from Jeeps of Sikh yatris.
Earlier in the day a video had hit social-media networks in which Uttarakhand police officials can be seen as removing the Sikh flags from two wheelers and four wheelers of Sikh yatris.
